Studio Brief 1: Self Promotional Poster
Evaluation
Self promotion is usually something I shy away from, unless writing a CV/personal statement which even then I find really difficult. To me, my whole practice needs improving on, from the way I work, to my choice in media (which is why I am studying on the course I guess) and am in no way even close to being ready for the illustration industry as a professional practitioner just yet. Despite this however, this task has been beneficial in attempting to reflect and see myself as others do, picking out the positives about myself and trying to sell them to the audience/the agencies employing me. I decided to approach this task a little differently form the way I normally do by incorporating an element of cartoon and humour. I started out by thinking broadly in terms of what people want, and I must have been hungry at the time as I began thinking about take aways which lead me to kebabs. The idea is that all of my attributes are the kebab and I have everything that the illustration agency customer would want... so "serve me up". The "Jess-Kebab" ( a play on "doner" or "shish") was created using marker which I rarely use. I actually like the effect this media has generated, the mark making and scruffy look adding to the cartoon aesthetic I was going for and helps make all of the different elements within the creative kebab stand out nicely. If I was to do the poster again, I would really like to see a more cleaner finish in comparison, maybe using digital media such as Adobe Illustrator to add a more profession poster look.
